I downloaded this book because I am an avid scuba diver and found it on a list of scuba diving fiction. I'm not a romance novel reader -- ever -- but I figured I'd give it a try due to the subject matter. The book is very entertaining and even though the author didn't delve too deeply (pun intended) into the meticulous detail of correct diving terminology, she got it mostly right. Right enough not to be a total turn-off to actual divers. She just simplified it down so that any non-diver would get what she was talking about. For instance, she always said "hitch on his tanks" and nobody every in the book did any kind of a safety stop. Never any mention of depth or talk about the equipment in general. Hitch on the tanks was about as technical as it got. Meanwhile, it was a satisfying story line set in a fantastic tropical locale. It moved along nicely and kept my attention the whole way. I read this on Kindle and listened to it on Audible (going back and forth with Whispersync). The narrator of the Audible version did a good job with the voices and I enjoyed it. A bad narrator can really kill the story and this one did well, even with the southern accents which she didn't beat to death. Overall, I felt it was time well spent and I might even give Nora Roberts another try. If this were a book in a series, as many of her novels are, I'd definitely already be onto the second installment. This is the epitome of a "beach read." If you are hankering after a vicarious fix on your scuba diving habit, you might be a little disappointed. On the other hand, who doesn't like to dream of stumbling onto a spanish treasure ship which has miraculously gone undiscovered in shallow water off St. Kitts? The Reef Nora Roberts 9780399144417 Books Reviews
BUYER BEWARE!! Save your money! I wish I had read the review in total before purchase. "...fails to develop characters..." is a vast understatement. Even though it looks fairly recently published, I hope it's not. Juvenile plot line. Jr. High angst. Must have been one of her first. I finished it because I thought it would surely get better. It did not. Since I bought it for , it was full price. Enjoy, Nora. I was a sucker.
What a great, easy to follow and fun story!! I've read Nora Roberts for years and have to say this is her best I have found thus far. She covers all the best topics from honesty to unreasoning greed to cool logic to fun in the sun. I totally recommend this book!!
This book was awesome. The characters were so lively, lovely and maniacal. One was a crazy idiot, one was killed, one was injured and you will need to read to find out the rest. The story was so drawing, it was hard to put it down.
Enjoy the read!!
Am only part way through this book. It is fascinating and very hard to put down. I need to concentrate on some other work but am very anxious to get back to reading this.
I just finished this book...and WOW!! I loved it. Brilliantly written...Definately recommended....GREAT READ!! The was murder in the prologe, and that hooked me immediately, romance bloomed throughout the book, you really feel the despairation between Matthew & Tate, tensely moving from chapter to chapter, the relationship between all of the characters is well developed, all of the characters are well developed, I felt like I was a fly on the wall, occasionally when Nora took me there, I was that character, feeling their thoughts, ...I actually felt my heart leap in one part..extremely moving and emotional....Happy Reading!
Nora Roberts never disappoints. Another good one. I always learn something from her books. This time it was about treasure diving. Always a shocker how it ends. When you have it figured out things change. Love how she keeps me wondering and trying to figure out the ending.
I love the Nora Roberts books that have adventure, fascinating characters, and locations that are a bit off the beaten path. This book has it all. It is involved over a period of time and the story and characters seamlessly meld. The world of deep sea diving for treasure was so real that I couldn't put the book down.. Great story!! Nancy Kinder
