I don't know where to go with this. I bought this .. I don't remember why.

Tyler has been dumped by his snotty ex, Trisha, and wants her back. His BF Mathew comes up with the idea to make her jealous by prancing another woman under her nose. Their selection is the incredibly sassy Jordan, an employee. What they failed to do is clue Jordan in on the plan which turns out to be a fatal flaw later.

The faux romance proceeds and the incredibly uptight Tyler is drawn more and more to Jordan's open and breezy personality. In a sense, he becomes the guy that Trisha thought she wanted. Trials and tribulations happen when Tyler's plans succeeds and piques Trisha's interest but implodes when Jordan gets a sniff of the original intent of the scam.

Th cast of secondary characters rocks: Jordan has a plethora of brothers and zany friends not to mention Tyler's BF has some promising quirks as well. I am definitely interested enough to read another in this series I just can't decide who I want to read about.

The hero undertakes quite a jump in personality. He goes from shut down beta then springs into an alpha sex frenzy that, well, took both the heroine and me by surprise.

Childish Games Meet the Shepards Series Book 2 edition by Jacqueline Francis Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

Tyler and Trisha have had a rocky relationship for 3 years. Now, she’s engaged to someone else, but Tyler can’t shake that she must still love him, even though he never told her that.

So he has 6 months ‘til the wedding—6 months to break them up.

Jordan is a single gal, who has been working as Tyler’s accountant for a few years. She’s “lanky, weird, slightly psycho Jordan,” according to Tyler, which is why he would never think of pretending to date her—but it may be the only way to get Trisha back and Jordan seemed to be the perfect candidate with no attachments and no complications, thus, marking the beginning of “childish games.”

Book was outlined in a series of tasks plot, execution, the date, the aftermath, the mistake, a little bump in the road, etc.

Readers will enjoy Tyler’s floundering attempts to complete his mission, especially when he tries to ask out Jordan and could not help but stare at her breasts. Classic! Best part about it was that Jordan noticed his ogling and didn’t take any crap about it. My eyes are up here! I liked Jordan. She’s prompt, efficient, and skilled—always the professional— but she’s also smart, savvy, and up-front, and she knows that Tyler is up to something and is determined to find out.

Cute, witty, and funny! You’ll love how these two skirt around each other to uncover hidden agendas, until they look up and notice something they didn’t see before. He sees that Jordan’s not like Trisha—so un-normal and ordinary—and Tyler is not the arrogant a-#hole she thought he was. Of course, the all-mighty Princess Bride Trisha is not buying any of it. How could this be? He’s Mr. Billionaire and she’s Plain Jane. It’s a regular She’s All That, and these cliques are about to have a showdown. It’s a wonderfully awkward union of geek and chic.

Not only is the story funny, but the characters have an endearing vulnerability that opens up their hearts and complicates matters even more. I mean, there’s nothing more complicated than falling for your boss!

A worthy comedy-romance!
So to be honest I was a little leery going into this. Because it’s clear in this story that the hero is not the typical hero most like to read about these days. He’s not an “alpha” male—an overbearing, rude, cold, and enigmatic hero, who even I can admit that I prefer. But this hero was, maybe more like an actual decent human being? So I jumped in, hoping that I could push my love of awful heroes aside and enjoy this one. And I am so glad I did.

So I actually really enjoyed the premise of the story. Tyler’s girlfriend of three years left him, when all he wanted was to get her back. But he never told her he loved her. And I thought it was more out of being comfortable with her than actually loving her. Anyway, him and his friend try to concoct a plan to get her back. And when Jordan, Tyler’s secretary, walks in the door, they know what they will do. Tyler will take Jordan to dinner where he ex always eats to make her jealous.

Jordan was only supposed to be a pawn to get back his ex. But the minute they begin spending time with each other outside of the office, sparks fly. They had some serious chemistry, man. Woah. And I thought the games Jordan would play with Tyler hilarious.

Tyler is hard to explain. He’s orderly. He doesn’t like to try new things. He follows the rules. His inner dialogue was actually pretty hilarious. And while he isn’t the alpha male, I didn’t feel like I missed anything, but he was unique and well-developed. (And he was hot, so that made it easier ;) He was also very compassionate and didn't jump into things without thinking it through. I enjoyed that about him very much.

Some of these scenes were just so hilarious.

Jordan has no filter. I really enjoyed her. I thought her really refreshing and the perfect pairing with Tyler. I loved them together, and enjoyed their banter, and slowly falling for each other.

Their relationship was developed perfectly and I was really invested in it. While Tyler begins seeing Jordan to get his ex jealous, he quickly realizes where his true feelings lie.

I would recommend this to anyone who loves decent heroes with a human side. And those who love humor and contemporary romance.

It was an interesting read. Maybe a little bit too weird for me. I'm very glad that there is an epilogue, but the ending still was only a three star for me. The beginning of the book was better in my opinion. I still don't understand why the hero was described as a drama queen. He was a little odd, serious and careful. I didn't get a drama queen vibe at all.
