Unconditional A Tale of the Zombie Apocalypse eBook Chris Pourteau
There is a book series that I started in 2009 called The Chet And Bernie Mystery Series by Spencer Quinn (aka Peter Abrahams) and book one was called Dog On It. The story follows a private investigator named Bernie and his dog Chet, but there is a twist. The story is told from the dog's point of view. When I read this book I was hooked. I felt that this was something I had never read before. The story was just great. I loved it when Bernie would be talking to a suspect but you wouldn't know what was said because the dog saw a squirrel or smelt something. I mention all of this because I have not read another story told from a dog's point of view that I liked. Well that was until I read Unconditional. As you have read and can tell by other reviews, the story is told from a dog's point of view during a zombie apocalypse. He get's separated from his "pack" and is trying to find them, especially the boy. This is a short story (you could probably read it in under a half hour, I am a slow reader) but it gets your attention and won't let go until the end. You can't really say much about the story since it is so short without giving something away, but I highly recommend this story. Treat yourself to a great story, and hey, it is cheaper than a cup of coffee and will stay with you longer and you can read it over and over. Can't beat that deal.

Unconditional A Tale of the Zombie Apocalypse eBook Chris Pourteau Reviews
I was given a copy of this story in exchange for an honest review, but I bought it, too. It's just that good. Pourteau gets the "voice" of the dog down perfectly, and answers the imaginative question of what if? What would happen to our pets in the case of the zombie apocalypse? The perfect balance of speculative thought and beautiful sadness.
Unconditional
Such a touching story! Yes, it’s a zombie story, but the zombies are not the point. It’s about the relationship between a dog and his boy, about love, loyalty, and loss. The dog’s point of view is believable and sweet. His story is both heartwarming and tinged with sadness. Well done all round, and I enjoyed reading it very much.
Very enjoyable read. This entertaining short is contrast to classic naturalist personifications of canines and their reflections on man. Anyone who has ever been a member of a dog’s pack will appreciate this tale, told from the perspective of a boy’s best friend.
Not since I read The Road by Cormac McCarthy, has a story pulled me in and made me feel for the characters without ever telling me their names. Knowing a character’s name is a large part of ‘knowing’ who they are, without one they’re likely to mean nothing to us. However, there are exceptions to this rule example A, the aforementioned classic, The Road, and B, Unconditional by Chris Pourteau.
Unconditional takes place during some kind of zombie apocalypse. However, that fact is almost secondary to the story. Every zombie story I have ever read has been about what happens to humans and society after the undead have taken over, never giving any thought to how such an event would effect man’s best friend.
Without giving us a clue as to where we are, what happened, or why, Pourteau has crafted a story full of joy, sadness and terror, all from the perspective of a nameless dog. This tail (that’s right, I did) is unique in that there is no dialogue and the human characters are not in the forefront of the story. This is the first story I’ve ever read, told from the perspective of a dog and at first I thought this would throw me, but Chris pulled it off very well. The simple, loving nature of the dog is conveyed expertly and effortlessly.
I definitely recommend Unconditional! Not a fan of zombie stories, you say? I say, read it anyway, you won’t be disappointed.
It's a great tale for anyone who has ever owned a dog. The apocalyptic setting makes it all the more interesting. But the affection shared between a dog and it's owner is the true story. One that I think will be enjoyed by any animal owner.
Do you have a pet you adore? If so, then your pet probably feels the same way about you. This short story explores the relationship between a boy and his dog. Throw in a Zombie Apocalypse, and you have a beautiful love story with a twist.
Reading a story from the point of view of an animal is a unique experience. For instance, the dog refers to his owners as the Boy, the Baby, the Man, and the Woman. He also considers the boy his twin runt. This is an exceptionally well-written, character driven emotional ride.
Sometimes a story comes along that completely turns a genre on its head. Just when you thought zombie stories were all the same, Chris Pourteau comes along and merges a familiar subject with gut wrenching emotion that hits us right at our most vulnerable spot... in our love for man's best friend.
