Neverland Adventures in Neverland series Book 1 eBook Anna Katmore
Growing up, I was never much of a fan of Peter Pan. For whatever reason, I couldn't really get into it. As I got older, I expressed a little more interest in it, but not too much. That being said, I absolutely loved this book. You don't need to be a fan, or even particularly knowledgeable about Peter Pan to enjoy this story. Whether you're familiar with the story or not, the author presents the information in such a way that everything is new and exciting. The characterization of Hook and Pan is somewhat the same, yet a lot more developed and complex. Anna Katmore has put a lot of thought into keeping the characters both true to the originals, but also different. Their characterizations are very similar, particularly at the beginning, but as the story goes on, more and more information about the characters is revealed.
The story mostly centers around Hook and Angel. I've seen other reviews where people have an aversion to the main character being named Angel, but it is short for Angelina. Why she is called Angel is explained early in the story, and the reason is rather clever, in my opinion.
I was only able to put this book down because I desperately needed sleep, otherwise I would have read it in one sitting.
I am eagerly awaiting the sequel, due within the next couple of months, possibly even next month.
If you're a fan of YA, or romance, or chick-lit, or fantasy, or Peter Pan, or fairy tales, or any combination thereof, I cannot recommend this enough.
I'm looking forward to reading more by this author.
Edit: In my haste to post this, I neglected to mention that the book ends on a "just right" cliffhanger. What I mean is, this original novel wraps up nicely, while leaving you with a hint of what is to come in the sequel, without being overly suspenseful. Perfectly done.
In addition, I bought this for my kindle, and have placed the physical copy in my cart. I feel like I need to have this in my physical library, it's just that good, especially with a cover like that!

Neverland Adventures in Neverland series Book 1 eBook Anna Katmore Reviews
Let me start out by saying *sigh*. I absolutely loved this book. It was touching, romantic, exciting and an adventure all in one. You feel like you're a swashbuckling pirate on the Jolly Roger along for the ride. You witness hate turn to like and then to love between Angel and Jamie. I loved the beginning of the book, when she is doing things just to spite him, its hilariously funny, and completely relatable. I had many moments where I caught myself smiling at the duo and other times that just made me sigh in delight.
It has been a while since I have picked up a book to read, and as a review writer that speaks volumes. I was having a hard time over-coming the stereotypes, the cliches, and the same story plot time and time again. I was losing faith in new titles, indie and best-selling authors, but Anna Katmore has restored my faith in books with Neverland. Its original, and breaks what you think of with a romance or paranormal romance. It has relatable characters, funny moments, a breath taking love story and kept my attention from the first page to the last.
I am so glad that I found this book when the sequel had already been released because now I don't have to wait a year to start Pan's Revenge!
Have I ever mentioned before that Peter Pan is one of my favorite fairy-tale characters of all time? Well, next to Cinderella, that is. I have always loved Peter Pan and Tinkerbell. When Hook was included in the TV show Once Upon A Time, I immediately got hooked! {wink-wink} And never looked back..
Anna Katmore’s Neverland series is my newest Peter Pan retelling. Oh, let me rephrase that. This isn’t actually a retelling. This is a story of Angelina McFarland who fell down from the clouds, caught by a spritely flying boy named Peter, forgot her name, discovered Neverland, met the boys that never grew old, desperately tried to return to London, and captured by Captain Hook.
Sounds familiar?
Well, believe it or not, this isn’t like any Peter Pan & Hook stories that you’ve grown to know and love. Not at all.
In my opinion, this book, Neverland, is more of Captain Hook’s turf. James Hook is a far cry from the ugliest, meanest and scariest pirate in the land. No is the kind of villain-hero you would grow to love, apples, included. While Peter Pan is the hero that you’d rather choose to hate.
This is definitely not your typical Disney story. I applaud Anna Katmore for a meticulously written and fantastically narrated book. I actually read this with my kids in two nights, and during those two storytelling sessions, I swear I saw sparks, fireworks and mischief in their eyes. We can’t wait to read the next book and fill our dreams with happy thoughts! What can I say, I’m a kid at heart, too!
This is a young adult novel, so brace yourselves. I had forgotten that going in and sort of struggled to keep myself interested for the first several chapters. I stuck with it and was semi-entertained. YA novels have me rolling my eyes and wondering how on earth any girl could be that insipid and melodramatic. Ah, there are some blessings to getting older.
I'm a sucker for Neverland stories and those that recast villains in a new and positive light. Both of these factors made this book a bit more palatable to me than most YA novels. I enjoyed Ms. Katmore's new look at the characters of Peter Pan and James Hook. It was more complex and darker with an interesting psychological approach to the characters. The interaction between heroine and hero was entertaining at times (she can be pretty feisty and he walks the fine line of honorable bad guy), but I agree with the complaints that label her as a "Mary Sue" character (Angel? Really?). Dialogue is entirely modern, even from the Neverland characters. It's...distracting. The romance between heroine and hero moves SO FAST and seems forced. And the solution to the story even faster. All in all, I'm did not hate it, but I will not continue on in the series.
